Della S. Tyler, 85 of Cambridge, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital on Tuesday May 10, 2011. She was born in Cambridge on August 14, 1925, and was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Hilda Mae Marshall Shorter.
She attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1942. Some years ago she had worked in the office at the Phillips Packing Co. On August 2, 1947 she was married to Henry Hubert Tyler. Mr. Tyler passed away on July 3, 2000. Most of her life had been spent raising her five children. Mrs. Tyler was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cambridge for over 40 years. She was a member of the Gleaner's Club and had worked on soup days, St. Paul's Flower Fair, and many other functions within the Church. Mrs. Tyler enjoyed playing Bingo, going on bus trips as well as spending time with her family. She was stricken suddenly on Sunday, and was taken to Dorchester General Hospital where she passed away on Tuesday evening.
Survivors include one daughter Bonnie Tyler Young and her husband Rod Young of Centreville, three sons Mike H. Tyler and his partner Bob Huntington of Easton, Mark A. Tyler and his wife Elaine Tyler of East New Market and Chris Tyler and his fiancAC. Marlene Adkins Windsor of Cambridge, six grandchildren Missy Cummins, Kim Turowski, Michelle Tyler, Roy Tyler, Jr., Moe Tyler, Jr., and April Lynn Tyler, seven great grandchildren Logan, Tanner, Tyler, Trenton, Hunter, Trace and Nathaniel. She is also survived by a sister Doris Johnson of Cambridge. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son Charles Roy "Hank" Tyler, Sr., one brother Charles Lloyd Shorter and a sister Phyllis Johnson
A funeral service will be held on Monday morning at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Maryland Avenue in Cambridge with the Rev. Fred Bahr officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, c/o Mr. Scott Daniels, 205 Maryland Avenue, Cambridge, MD 21613, or to the Kidney Foundation of the Eastern Shore, 113 West Main Street, Salisbury, MD 21801-4904. Active pallbearers will be Chris Tyler, Moe Tyler, Jr., Roy Tyler, Jr., Rodney Young, Bob Huntington, John Cummins, Bill Leonard, Tyler Turowski, Tanner Cummins and Logan Turowski. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Stubbs, Danny Leonard and Greg Leonard who were like family.
