Don R. Fraley, Sr., 76 of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Dorchester General Hospital. He was born in Heidleberg, Kentucky on July 26, 1932 and was a son of the late William P. and Emily Ambrose Fraley.
Mr. Fraley graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War. Shortly after the military, he worked for the Maryland State Police for 10 years. Then he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in December 1996. After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, he worked for several convenience stores, Corner Market and Sandy Hill Quick Shop. On November 11, 1979, he married the former Linda Travers. He played in a several different bands and enjoyed playing the organ. Mr. Fraley was a member of the American Legion Post #91 and Choptank Memorial Post #7460 VFW.
He is survived by his wife Linda Fraley of Cambridge, a son Rick Fraley of California, a daughter Michelle Dietrich and husband Frank of Cambridge, a grandson Brandon Fitzhugh of Cambridge, a sister Edna Mae Fraley of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Fraley is preceded in death by three brothers William P. Fraley, Jr., Jack L. Fraley and Billy D. Fraley and a stepson Michael Fitzhugh.
Pallbearers will be Paul Hines, Frank Dietrich, Dickie Warfield, Brandon Fitzhugh, Richard Warfield and John Conn.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Joseph Harmon and Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613.
