Donald L. Murphy

Donald L. Murphy, 83 of Salisbury, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born in Cambridge on May 9, 1928, and was a son of the late Addison H. and Beatrice R. Richardson Murphy.

Donald attended schools in Vienna. He had worked at the Eastern Shore State Hospital for 16 years, and later worked at the Dorchester County Roads Board for 13 years. For many years he enjoyed fishing. On May 10, 1968 he was married to the former Evelyn Williamson. Donald was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. He had been in failing health for the past 30 years, and had been a patient at Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he passed away on Friday evening.

He is survived his wife M. Evelyn Murphy of Salisbury, one son Lee D. Murphy and wife Danna Murphy of Easton, one daughter Diane L. Meredith of Milford, DE, two granddaughters Rene Nicholson of Salisbury and Stephanie Loller of Chestertown, a grandson Steve Meredith of Milford, DE, six step children, 9 step grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, three brothers Gene Murphy of Linkwood, Kenneth Murphy of Fruitland and Robert N. "Jim" Murphy of Salisbury, two sisters, Claribel Edge of East New Market, and Katherine Hughes of East New Market. He was preceded in death by a brother Melvin Murphy a sister, Louise Hurley and a grandson Ryan Murphy.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. with the Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060. Pallbearers will be David Andrews, Wayne Brohawn, Joe Meilhammer, Patrick Murphy, Mark Murphy and Eddy Murphy.
