Donald "Donnie" F. Townsend, 67, of East New Market passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Cambridge on May 28, 1946 and was the son of the late Frederick and Anna Kuebler Townsend.
He graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1964. On October 16, 1964, he married the former Kay Blades. He was a mechanic with B.J. Linthicum, Hastings Garage, Jones Implement, and last with the Dorchester County Roads Board. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, farming and loved spending time with his grandson. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and a life member of Linkwood Salem Volunteer Fire Company.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Kay Townsend of East New Market, two children Troy Townsend and wife Dawn of East New Market and Angel Degges and husband Sonny of Taylors Island, four grandson Jacob Townsend, Joshua Townsend, Hunter Degges and Dylan Degges and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Mark Adams, Mark Eberspacher, Toby Adams, Billy Short, Billy Beckwith and Greg Webster. Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Baker, Jr., George Hastings, Carlton Nabb, Roger Adams, Sr., Robert Wheatley, Roland Webster and Donald Jones, Sr.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Larry Wroten officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Linkwood Salem Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 66, Linkwood, MD 21835.
