Doris S. Hurley, 89, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, September 28, 2015 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born in Cambridge on December 21, 1925 and was a daughter of the late Wilbur Nathan Slacum and Eva Clarissa Gray Slacum.
Mrs. Hurley attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School. On June 8, 1944, she married Reese A. “Mickey” Hurley, Jr., who passed away on June 17, 1991. Some years ago she had worked at the Phillips Packing Company in Cambridge. Mrs. Hurley was a member of the First Baptist Church and was also a member of the Senior Moments at the church. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts and dolls and other crafts.
She is survived by two sons D. Bruce Hurley and wife Beverly of Cambridge and Mark J. Hurley and wife Rosemarie of Cambridge, three granddaughters Angela Dickerson and husband Jason of Cambridge, Ashley Jones and husband Denny of Cambridge and Beth Van Dyke and husband Henry of East New Market, four great grandsons, a great granddaughter, three step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special caregiver Carolyn Newcomb. Besides her husband, Mrs. Hurley is preceded in death by two brothers Wilbur C. “Rip” Slacum and Donald G. Slacum.
Pallbearers will be Denny Jones, Jason Dickerson, Henry Van Dyke, Wayne Asplen, Kevin Asplen and Wayne Potter.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge with Pastor Steve Trice officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church, 501 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
