Doris Marie Lane Trago, 82, of East New Market, MD passed away peacefully on Monday, July 30, 2012 at Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge. She was the daughter of the late Leon Mace Lane Sr. and Rose Hughes Lane. Doris was born on July 18, 1930 and attended Elementary, Junior High and High Schools in Cambridge. She graduated with the Class of 1947.
Through her younger years, she was employed at Bradley's Music Shop, Farmers & Merchants Bank, Eason's Pharmacy & Confectionary and was employed later by the Drs. Alfred & Lawrence Maryanov. She was invited to become a contestant in the Miss Dorchester Pageant, a forerunner of the Miss America Pageant and competed with a number of other lovely ladies from our County. On August 2, 1953, she married Henry Arthur (Chick) Trago from Aberdeen, MD. They met while he played baseball for the Cambridge Dodgers, a farm club of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He later joined the United States Air Force where he served in Okinawa. Upon his return from overseas they were married and later moved to Abingdon, MD where they built their home and lived until 1980. They were both active for many years with the Masonic Lodge and Tall Cedars. When his parents were deceased and he retired as the Safety Officer for the Aberdeen Proving Grounds and Edgewood Arsenal, they sold their home and moved to Cedar Grove Road in Dorchester County. There they were both active in the East New Market Fire Company, the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Chick passed away in August of 2006. Doris remained in good health until January of 2010 when she suffered a stroke and has dealt with health problems ever since.
She is survived by her brother Leon M. Lane, Jr. (Jay) & wife Lois of East New Market, and two sisters Shirley Lane Still & husband Walter of Dover, DE, and Judith Lane Walls & husband Robert of Seaford, DE; seven nieces and nephews, ten great-nieces & nephews, with a new great niece expected in October and one great-great niece. Beside her husband of 53 years, she was preceded in death by her parents, her eldest sister Betty Jean and a great-nephew, Christopher Bradley.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Thomas W. Hurley officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be beside her husband in Baker's Cemetery, Aberdeen, MD on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the East New Market Fire Department, P.O. Box 280, East New Market, MD 21631.
