Dorothy J. "Dottie" Thomas

Dorothy J. "Dottie" Thomas, 72 of Cambridge, went to be with her Lord on Friday June 3, 2011. She was born in Jennersville, PA on December 9, 1938, and was a daughter of the late George Eugene and Dorothy Gauntz Stern, Sr.

She moved to Maryland at the age of three and attended schools in Maryland as well as Glen Burnie High School. She had worked at Baltimore Scientific, English's, Principal at the Open Bible School, Caldwell Casting Co., and later was administrative assistant to Dr. Thomas R. Mullen in Seaford. She was first married to Robert Thompson on August 7, 1955. She and Mr. Thompson had been quite involved as foster parents for a number of years. Mr. Thompson passed away on January 10, 2001. She was later married to James P. Thomas December 6, 2002. Dottie was a member of the Cambridge Wesleyan Church and had been very active in her church life in a number of church activities for many years. Dottie enjoyed traveling and had driven across the country and had traveled to Alaska. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. Dottie had been in failing health for the past 18 months and had been a patient at the Memorial Hospital at Easton for one week when she passed away on Friday evening.

Survivors include her husband James P. Thomas of Cambridge, three daughters Melanie Crosley and husband Tim Crosley of Salt Lake City, Utah, Melissa Sterling and husband Dan Sterling of Mardela Springs, Tony "Mickie" Malick and her husband Michael Malick of Federalsburg, three sons Craig Thompson and wife Terri Thompson of Laurel, DE, Ted Thomas of Cambridge and Tim Thomas and his wife Patti Thomas of Preston. She is also survived by one sister Sally Trane of Pasadena, MD and one brother George Eugene Stern, Jr. and his wife Sandy Stern of Pasadena, MD, 24 grandchildren Aaron Crosley, Eric Crosley, Angela Whelan, Kelly Bowden, Shaunna Manchester, Amanda Filegar, Jessica Rogers, Craig Thompson, Jr. Cody Thompson, Sara Tanski, Zack Bowman, Dori Bowman, Hannah Butler, Luke Thomas, Ashley Mitchell, Michele Thomas, Matthew Thomas, Adam Thomas, David Thomas, Jason Crosley, Jacob Crosley, Kim Dabes, Erin Dabes, Nikie Dabes, numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a sister in law Shirley Foxwell of Cambridge. She is also survived by two special friends who were like sisters Shirley Doty and Peggy Aaron both of Cambridge. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son James Michael Thomas.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Cambridge Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Joseph Harmon, and the Rev. Barry Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, and during the hour preceding the service. Pallbearers will be Craig Thompson Cody Thompson, Joe Filegar, Brad Rogers, Bruce Mitchell and Earl Mitchell. Honorary bearers will be Ted Thomas and Tim Thomas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cambridge Wesleyan Church Helping Comm., c/o Mrs. Paulette Meekins, 1108 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit, 219 South Washington Street, Easton, MD 21601.
