Dorothy Lee Windsor, 89, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014 at UMSMC at Dorchester. She was born in East New Market on December 30, 1924 to the late Howard and Maggie Harding Short.
She married Sheldon Windsor on January 24, 1944. Mrs. Windsor was the last surviving member of her family of 14 children. Although she spent some years employed by Bumble Bee, she devoted her entire life to being a homemaker and working on the family farm. She was a member of Chateau Community Church, Friendship Church, WSCS at Friendship Church, the homemakers club and a member of Linkwood-Salem Volunteer Fire Company since 1957, where she was honored with a life time membership and considered the highlight of the secret pal club. She was also a past chairman of the Farm Bureau. Dorothy Lee loved to sing and sang every Sunday at church in the choir and as a soloist. She enjoyed shopping, wearing jewelry and word searches. She loved to be around people and spend time with her family and dog Sheila. Mrs. Windsor always made sure that everyone got a card for their birthday or other special occasions. She was famous for her homemade rolls, macaroni and cheese and sweet potato pies.
Mrs. Windsor is survived by her husband of seventy years Sheldon W. Windsor, her six children Karen Taylor and husband George of Cambridge, Ann Gerhardt of St. Michaels, Brenda Yeatman of Cambridge, Shelley Johnson and husband Raymond of Cambridge, Winfield Windsor of Cambridge and Cheryl Windsor May of Cambridge, a daughter in law Frances Windsor, ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by a son Kelly L. Windsor, a great grandson James Clark Palmatary, her twin sister Rosalie Kefauer and twelve other siblings and three son in laws Howard Yeatman, Edgar May and Ralph Gerhardt.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Sam Taylor, Jason Yeatman, John Taylor, Ashley Windsor, Curtis Windsor and her great grandson Tommy Barnett.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Larry Wroten officiating. Burial will take place at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
