E. Kenneth Moore, 80, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at his home. He was born in Cambridge on February 14, 1929 and was a son of the late Erville and Leota Davenport Moore.
Mr. Moore was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School, class of 1946. He served in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1949. He earned the rank of Petty Officer 11 and AG 11 as a weather aerographer on cargo ships to Newfoundland and Rabat, Morocco, where he enjoyed exploring the nearby North African area when stationed there for a year. After returning from the military, he worked as a meat cutter and cook at the Eastern Shore State Hospital, and married Shirley McCaughey in 1955. He then worked as a meat cutter and Meat Department manager at the Colonial Stores in Cambridge for 28 years. He attended evening classes, earning a business degree from Johns Hopkins University Business School in 1972. For his second career, Mr. Moore worked for the Division of Corrections in Quantico as a correction officer and reached the rank of lieutenant before retiring in 1991. Mr. Moore and wife greatly enjoyed traveling across the United States, venturing to Europe and North Africa, as well as cruising the Caribbean. Kenneth loved boating on the Choptank River, camping in the U.S. mountains and Canada, videotaping vacation travels and nature, watching birds, the weather and following world news. During their time living in Bonnie Brook, he served as secretary of the Bonnie Brook Association for three years, and enjoyed having family get-togethers at the Cambridge Elks Lodge where he was a member.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20th at 3 p.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 5401 Whitehall Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 with Rev. Joan P. Evans officiating, and all are invited to attend . Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
