She moved to the Eastern Shore in 1945 and on August 11, 1945 she was married to Wendell C. Fitzgerald. He passed away on March 8, 2005. She retired from Leggett's Department Store in Cambridge, and always remembered her many years working there as a saleslady with fondness. Mrs. Fitzgerald was a devoted wife and mother and derived much pleasure from being with, and talking to friends and neighbors, owning dachshunds, maintaining and restoring her home. She had been in failing health for several months, and was taken to Dorchester General Hospital on Friday afternoon where she passed away.
Survivors include a son Stephen R. Fitzgerald of Hollywood, Florida and four nieces. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters May Grayson and Evelyn Monahan and one nephew.
A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.
