Edna Marie Hughes, 96, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge. She was born in Church Creek on September 20, 1924 and was a daughter of the late Edward and Helen Phillips Elzey.
Mrs. Hughes attended schools in Church Creek. On September 9, 1944, she married John W. Newcomb, who passed away on December 7, 1966. On October 18, 1969, she married Herman M. Hughes, who passed away on October 29, 2001. Mrs. Hughes worked at Phillips Packing Company and on the family farm with her husband. After, Mr. Newcomb passed away, she worked as a caregiver and later at the Eastern State Hospital Center in the Dietary department for 18 years. She was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church and enjoyed working with flowers, cooking, baking and yard work.
She is survived by two sons Warren E. Newcomb and wife Diane of Cambridge and John W. Newcomb and wife Sherry of Cambridge, a daughter Connie Marie Marth and husband Conroy Marth of Preston, and a stepson Mark E. Hughes and wife Sharon of Cambridge, six grandchildren and two step grandchildren, three great grandsons and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husbands, Mrs. Hughes is preceded in death by two sisters Betty Shenton and Shirley Todd, a brother William E. Elzey, two step daughters Terry Hurley and Carol Blanchard.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 2 pm at Dorchester Memorial Park with Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Antioch Church, c/o Kathleen Rineholt, 2118 Horns Point Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
