Edwin H. Higgs, 72, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Hagerstown, MD on July 3, 1945 and was the son of the late Carl Thurston Higgs and Rachel Younkins Higgs. He was the loving husband of his wife of 46 years, Laura Higgs, devoted to his family, and kind to all he met.

Ed graduated from South Hagerstown High School and in 1967, completed a B.A. in Economics from Bridgewater College. On July 10, 1971, he married the former Laura Whitson. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a member of St. John’s Chapel. Ed worked for C&P Telephone Company and Procter and Gamble. After his retirement, he followed his dream and became a licensed boat captain and co-owner of Cambridge Yacht Brokers. He was an avid reader and spent a lifetime enjoying the water, boating, and kids and grandkids that brought him so much joy.

He is survived by his wife Laura Higgs of Cambridge, two daughters Ami Parks and husband Doug Parks, Jr. of Cambridge and Kari Rood and husband Bryan Rood of St. Petersburg, FL, four grandchildren Sierra Parks, Canin Parks, Mackenzie Rood and Ashby Rood, brother Eugene Higgs and his wife Sandy of Fisherville, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Chapel in Cornersville with Father Dan Dunlap officiating. Interment at the churchyard and a reception at the hall will follow. Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John’s Chapel, 1213 Hudson Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
