Elsie Kay Baumgartner Adshead, 77, of Hurlock passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Chesapeake Woods Center with her daughter’s by her side. She was born in Cambridge on October 26, 1939 and was a daughter of the late Herman Ralph Baumgartner and Mary Louise Manning Hurley and L. Earl Hurley.
Kay graduated from North Dorchester High School class of 1958. While she was in school, she enjoyed playing basketball and athletics in general. Kay and Larry also grew the family business Lawrence E. Adshead and Son, during their marriage of 24 years. Kay also raised the girls while working with the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1992. Kay also worked at Super Fresh in Cambridge. One of Kay’s great joys was the love for her grandchildren. Kay also enjoyed the beach, gardening, traveling, bowling and cooking. She was a member of the Cambridge Elks, Grace United Methodist Church and she also led with MYF at Trinity United Methodist Church. Kay was also involved with the Girl Scouts.
Kay is survived by her two daughters, Lori Holliday and husband, John, and Susan Andrews and husband, Ronnie; grandchildren Blake Holliday, Kayla Holliday, Chase Andrews and Graham Andrews; step grandchildren, Erin and Krista Holliday and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Kay is preceded in death by two brothers Phillip Baumgartner and her twin William “Billy” Baumgartner and a niece Amy Baumgartner Mally.
At the request of Kay, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 815, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A in Cambridge.
