Elizabeth L. Mears, 91 of Cambridge, went home to be with the Lord at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge on Sunday, May 2, 2010. She was born in Dorchester Co. on July 8, 1918, and was a daughter of the late William and Mollie Wilson Abbott.
She attended schools in Dorchester Co. On January 15, 1944 she was married to Philip H. Mears. Mr. Mears passed away on April 27, 1984. Some years ago Mrs. Mears had worked for the Rob Roy Co. Mrs. Mears was a very kind person, who loved her neighbors and her cats. She had been in failing health for the past two weeks when she passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center.
Survivors include a daughter Peggy A. Spedden and her husband Fred Spedden, Jr. of Cambridge, a special great grandson Allen Dietrich, Jr., a foster son Phillip G. Jackson and his wife Peggy Jackson of Pompano Beach, FL and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the East New Market Cemetery with the Rev. Jay Hurley officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dorchester Co. Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613. Pallbearers will be Frank Horsman, Fred Spedden, JR, Allen Dietrich, JR., Raymond Aaron, C.R. Newman and Phillip Jackson. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
