Ella L. Bradshaw, 87, of Trappe passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Dorchester General Hospital. She was born in Cambridge on June 14, 1924 and was a daughter of the late Allan and Elizabeth Jones Messick.
She attended schools in Cambridge. On August 25, 1943 she married Warren J. "Toots" Bradshaw. He passed away on September 9, 1968. She was a homemaker in her early years and later worked for Phillips Canning Company and Bumble Bee Seafood. She also went to school to receive her CNA and worked at a nursing home in Camp Hill, PA and retired in 2004. She enjoyed gardening and the Baltimore Orioles.
She is survived by her daughter Gloria "Peachie" Hickman and husband James of Trappe, a brother Jim Robbins of North Carolina, four sisters Hazel Wilkerson of North Carolina, Eva Burchette of Tennessee, Shirley Dayton of Cambridge and Kaye Chalk of Westminister, a granddaughter Sheri Wolfe of Tennessee, a grandson Dwayne Hickman of Dover, DE, a great granddaughter Brandy Geist of Tennessee and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Bradshaw is preceded in death by two sons Toots, Jr. and Jay A. Bradshaw, a brother Ivy Messick and three sisters Mildred Wright, Dot Ellis and Faye Laird.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Dorchester Memorial Park with Pastor Dave Stewart officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.
