Elmer Lee Wright, 91, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Cambridge on September 24, 1925 and was a son of the late Kemp and Elsie Willey Wright.
Mr. Wright became a member of Zion United Methodist Church at an early age, teaching Sunday school, participating in the choir and many church activities. In 1943, he graduated from Cambridge High School and was awarded a scholarship to Johns Hopkins. However, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp, becoming a pilot and always maintained an interest in aviation. Mr. Wright became the owner of Burch Paint and Glass and retired in 1993. In 1957, he married the former Betty Keene and they resided in Cambridge and part time in Florida. He was also a member of the Cambridge Lodge 66AF and AM.
He is survived by his wife Betty Wright of Cambridge, three nieces Christina Kight, Donna Landon and Margaret Ann Glidden, two nephews Earl Peter Wright, Jr. and Andy Willey and valued friends. Besides his parents, Mr. Wright is preceded in death by a sister Peggy Wright Willey and a brother Earl Peter Wright.
Pallbearers will be Curtis White, Earl Peter Wright, Calvin Landon, Eddie Howard, Alex Hart and Thomas Wright.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 1 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. William Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
