Elsie Mae Knox, 92, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, July 3, 2009 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born in Toddville on October 6, 1916 and was a daughter of the late Winnie M. and Princie Jones Todd.

Mrs. Knox attended school in South Dorchester. On November 29, 1943, she married John Richard Knox, Sr. He passed away on April 13, 1984. She and her husband built their home on Travers Street where she lived until her health started to fail. She then resided with her son and daughter in law John and Patricia in Bonnie Brook. She worked as a department manager and a buyer at Leggett's Department Store in Cambridge where she later retired. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, crossword puzzles and was very devoted to her family and friends. Mrs. Knox joined Zion United Methodist Church on December 21, 1947 where she was very active and was a member of the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son John R. Knox, Jr. and wife Patricia of Cambridge, two grandsons Richard S. Knox and wife Chandra of Vienna and Christopher S. Knox and wife Melody of Vienna, 8 great grandchildren, two nephews Robert Todd of Linkwood and Gillis S. Todd, Jr. of Church Creek and a devoted loved one Debbie Wheeler Knox of Cambridge. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Knox is preceded in death by a son Barry M. Knox, a brother Gillis S. Todd, Sr. and a nephew Emerson M. Todd, Sr.

Pallbearers will be Chris Knox, Richie Knox, Karl Knox, Robert Todd, Gillis Todd, Jr., and Brandon Manley.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with Rev. George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 114 Baptist Street, Salisbury, MD 21801 or to the Zion United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 612 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.
