Emma Elizabeth Travers, 96 of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born in Madison on June 14, 1915 and was a daughter of the late John M. and Ada Brannock Woollen.
At the age of seven she moved to Baltimore and moved back to Cambridge at the age of sixteen. Mrs. Travers attended Cambridge High School. On January 18, 1934 she married William Breerwood Travers. He passed away on July 21, 1982. In her early years she was a homemaker and later she worked at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center for 25 years before retiring in 1977. After retiring, she volunteered at the Dorchester General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary for 30 years. Mom loved going to the American Legion on Friday nights with her friend Thelma and to lunch at the Point. She was a longtime member of Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW, American Legion Post 91 where she just received her 39 year membership card, the Women of the Moose Lodge and St. Paul's United Methodist Church where she attended regularly. The family would like to express their graditude to Mallard Bay Staff.
She is survived two sons William Benjamin Travers and wife Kathy of Chickasaw, Alabama and William Breerwood Travers, Jr. and wife Carol of East New Market, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Travers is preceded in death by two great grandchildren and a sister Frances Smith.
Pallbearers will be Walter Lee Travers, Kevin Travers, Logan Fitzhugh, Steve Weisner, Andy Coleman and Eric Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Mitchell and D.J. Jump.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Dr. Everett Isaacs officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Dorchester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613.
