Erma M. Lewis

Erma Moore Lewis, 95 of Rock Hill, South Carolina, formerly of Cambridge, passed away on Thursday November 19, 2009 at Spring Arbor in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was born at Elliott on April 20, 1914, and was a daughter of the late Herman Winfield and Stella F. Hurley Moore.

She attended schools at Elliott. From 1933 until 1948 she had made her home in the Wilmington area, where she had worked as a retail clerk. On November 19, 1967 she was married to Milford C. Lewis. Mr. Lewis passed away on February 18, 2001. Mrs. Lewis had also worked at Rob Roy in Cambridge for 15 years until 1971 and she had also worked as a sales clerk. Mrs. Lewis was a member of Bucktown United Methodist Church where she had been organist from 1971 until 2003. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women at Bucktown Church. She loved playing the organ and piano, and had enjoyed sewing. For several years she had made her home in South Carolina.

Survivors include two daughters RuthAnn Dobson of Wilmington, DE and Mary E. Balbi of York, SC, one son Paul B. Kelley of Wilmington, DE, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, one brother Ray W. Moore of Smithfield, VA, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a sister Gladys Newcomb and four brothers Earl W. Moore, Emerson F. Moore, Donald A. Moore and Cecil W. Moore.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday December 5, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Bucktown United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining churchyard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bucktown Churchyard, c/o Mr. Franklin Knauer, Knauer Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Pallbearers will be Corey Barrett, Andrew Barrett, David Kelley, Michael Balbi, Jeff Dobson and Kenny Dobson. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
