Estelle M. Wingate, 79 of Cambridge, passed away at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore on Friday September 3, 2010. She was born at Cordova on June 26, 1931 and was a daughter of the late William J. and Mary Florence Gay Sedgwick.
She attended schools in Cordova. On September 13, 1955 she was married to Raymond S. Wingate, Sr. Mr. Wingate passed away on July 20, 1985. Some years ago she had worked at Leonard Simmons Cannery. She later worked at Bumble Bee Tuna for 30 years and had also worked at Perdue Farms. Later in life she worked as a sitter for a number of people. Mrs. Wingate had attended the Church of the Nazarene in Cambridge for many years. She was stricken suddenly on Thursday morning and was taken to University Hospital in Baltimore where she passed away on Friday afternoon. Survivors include two sons Raymond S. Wingate, Jr. and his wife Sandy Wingate of Cambridge, and William J. "Billy" Wingate and his wife Shawn Wingate of Cambridge, two granddaughters Candy Hurst of Seaford, Amy Davis of Cambridge three grandsons L. Barrett Wingate, Jr. of Trappe, Jonathan L. Wingate of Trappe and Chris Frantum of Cambridge, three great grandchildren Michael Frantum, Detrick Frantum and Raven Bryan all of Cambridge. She is also survived by several brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son L. Barrett Wingate, Sr. and several brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Wingate's name may be made to the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613. Pallbearers will be James Clauso, Christopher Frantum, Tommy Robbins, Kenny Dean, Jason Dean and Michael Hurst.
