Etta Mae "Bea" Simmons

August 18, 1916 — April 24, 2012

Etta Mae "Bea" Simmons, 95 of Church Creek passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. She was born in Golden Hill on August 18, 1916 and was a daughter of the late Louis and Margaret Hughes Riggins.

Mrs. Simmons attended schools in Golden Hill. On August 3, 1935, she married Ward A. "Tudor" Simmons, who passed away on March 20, 1995. She and her sister Martha had the Mar-B Shop and later they had H&S poultry business. She was a life time member of St. Johns United Methodist Church in Golden Hill, where she served as treasurer and trustee for many years.

Mrs. Simmons is survived by two sons Wayne D. Simmons, Sr. and wife Mary Ellen of Cambridge and Ward A. Simmons, Jr. and wife Carol of Waynesboro, PA, five grandchildren Wayne D. Simmons, Jr., John Simmons, Matthew Simmons, Jennifer Dunn and Joseph Simmons, eight great grandchildren, two nephews Hamilton Turner and James Turner. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Simmons is preceded in death by three sisters Ethel Turner, Martha Handley, Jeannette Brannock and a brother Guy Riggins.

Pallbearers will be Wayne D. Simmons, Jr., John Simmons, Matthew Simmons, Jennifer Dunn, Joseph Simmons and Bill Foxwell.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 1p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Gary Crouch officiating. Interment will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Johns United Methodist Church, c/o Doris Lewis, 3347 Golden Hill Road, Church Creek, MD 21622.
