Eugene "Gene" Eddie Creighton

Eugene E. “Gene” Creighton, 74, of Secretary passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Hoopers Island on October 15, 1941 to Luzetta Mills Brown and the late Horace Creighton.

Mr. Creighton attended schools in Dorchester County. He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1969. Gene married the former Jane L. Jarrett on September 10, 1961. Mr. Creighton worked as a carpenter, a waterman, a police officer in Virginia and most recently was a security guard for Chesapeake College in Cambridge. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #182 in Virginia. Gene enjoyed fishing, crabbing and going shooting with bows or guns with his son and grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife of 54 years Jane L. Creighton of Secretary, two children Michael Creighton and wife Lori of West Virginia and Bonnie Creighton Staab and husband Mark of North Carolina, four grandchildren William and Steven Buckler, DJ Jump and Brandi Smith, five great grandchildren Tayler Buckler, Mary Jane Buckler, Logan Jump, Karson Jump, and Annabella Jorette and his mother Luzetta Brown of East New Market.

Pallbearers will be Michael Creighton, DJ Jump, Gregory Gorski, William Buckler, Joshua Hubbard and Steven Buckler.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock with Rev. David J. Wooten, Jr. officiating. Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
