Evelyn Willing Alexander, 86, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester. She was born in Nanticoke, Maryland on August 2, 1927 and was a daughter of the late W. Travers Willing and Myra Eversman Willing.
She graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1944 and then attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music. It was there she met and married her husband of 64 years, Anthony "Tony" Alexander. Together they owned and operated music stores in Cambridge, Easton and Salisbury from 1950 until 1990. She was also a piano teacher and the organist at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church starting in 1963. From 1980 until 1990, she was an organist at the three Catholic churches of Ocean City during the summer months. In 1990 she became organist at St. Mary Star of the Sea in Golden Hill as well as the church in Cambridge. In 1989 she became a real estate agent and worked with Sewell Matthews and then Powell Realtors.
She was an active member of the Cambridge Country Club for 50 years, where she served on the board of directors and also as entertainment chairman. She also served on the Chesapeake College Music Board of Directors for several years.
She is survived by sons Bill and wife Faye and Bob and wife Brenda, grandchildren John, Mark, Victoria and Melissa and a great grandson Braiden. Besides her parents, Mrs. Alexander is preceded in death by her husband Anthony Joseph Alexander and a daughter Teresa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church with Celebrant William J. Lawler officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church, P.O. Box 218, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
