Evelyn E. Tanner

Evelyn E. Tanner, 89, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Chesapeake Woods Center. She was born in Cambridge on January 2, 1923 and was a daughter of the late Jeremiah and Lena Simmons Lewis.

She graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1940. After high school, Mrs. Tanner was employed at Phillips Packing Company, then with Kerr-McGee and later she was employed with the State of Maryland with the Department of Social Services as a fiscal clerk and retired at the age 61. On March 15, 1946, she married Walter W. Tanner, Sr. Mrs. Tanner was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for seventy six years and the Cambridge Lodge #1272 B.P.O.E. Elks.

She is survived by her husband Walter W. Tanner, Sr. of Cambridge. Besides her parents, Mrs. Tanner is preceded in death by a brother Brice Lewis and a sister E. Lewis.

Pallbearers will be Michael Baker, Alvin Moore, Raymond Baker, Alan Tanner, Randy Bradford and Ricky Cannon.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Christina Blake officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
