Fernando Arturo Sanchez, M.D., 74 passed away at his home in Cambridge on Saturday, October 30, 2010. He was born in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic on August 30, 1936, and was a son of the late Manuel Emilio Sanchez, M.D. and Rosa Felicia Perez Sanchez.
He attended schools in the Dominican Republic and graduated from Medical School at the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo. On February 19, 1964, he married the former Maritza Ruiz. They have made their home in Cambridge since 2002. He worked at the Department of Human Services in Washington DC and also at the DC General Hospital where he worked in the Pathology Department until he retired in 2000. Dr. Sanchez was a handyman, and enjoyed doing work around the house. He also enjoyed boating and fishing in the Choptank River.
Survivors include his wife Maritza R. Sanchez, one son Prosper E. Sanchez, D.O. of Cambridge, one daughter Zulma Sanchez of Washington, DC, a sister Maria, and brothers Juan, Frank and Manuel. He was preceded in death by a son Fernando Arturo Sanchez, Jr. and a sister Rosa Emilia Tavares.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge with the Celebrant William Lawler officiating. Interment will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 5:00 PM.
