Mr. Fletcher Phillips Williamson, resident of San Antonio, Texas and formerly of Easton, Maryland, died early Wednesday, September 9, 2009 after a prolonged illness. He was born December 16, 1923 in Cambridge, Maryland, the eldest son of William Fletcher Williamson, Jr. and Florence Mary Phillips. After graduating from Cambridge Senior High School in 1941, Mr. Williamson was a Test Engineer for the Glen L. Martin Co. Engineering Laboratory from 1942-1943. He served in the Ordinance Technical Intelligence Division of the U. S. Army at Aberdeen, Maryland and the European Theater of Operations during World War II from 1943-1945. From 1946 to 1950, Mr. Williamson was a salesman for the Corkran Ice Cream Company in Cambridge. After WWII, Mr. Williamson and Thomas Samworth operated the Choptank Ballistic Testing Laboratory. In 1950, Mr. Williamson entered the real estate business with Carlton Slagle and formed Williamson Real Estate in 1954, where he served as Chairman of the Board until his retirement in 2006. Mr. Williamson attained professional designations during his real estate career: MAI by the Appraisal Institute, ASA by the American Society of Appraisers, AFMRA by the American Association of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, and SIOR by the Society of Industrial Realtors. In his roles in various communities, he served on the Boards of Directors of Cargo Handlers, Inc., the Dorchester Corporation; WCEM, Inc., Delmarva Council of Boy Scouts; Cambridge Maryland Hospital; United Fund of Dorchester County; Delaware Museum of Natural History; Game Coin International and served as Chairman of the Board of The National Bank of Cambridge and Airpax Electronics, Inc. He was also Co-receiver of White & Nelson, Inc.,
After moving to San Antonio from Cambridge, Maryland in 1972, he married Helen Bradford Morris Stumberg. Due to declining health, Mr. Williamson sold his Maryland residence in 2005 and terminated his affiliation with Williamson Real Estate in 2006. Mr. Williamson was member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Descendants of the War of 1812, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Camp Fire Club of America, Anglers Club of New York, Cambridge Yacht Club, Shikar Safari Club, Explorers Club, San Antonio Country Club, the Argyle, Club Giraud, Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club, Tred Avon Yacht Club and Rolling Rock Club. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association, the American Ordinance Association, the Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce, the Dorchester County Board of REALTORS, Cambridge Lodge #66.
Mr. Williamson, the author of three books and numerous articles, was an avid sportsman traveling the world individually and with Helen. He was a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America writing columns for local newspapers. He leaves his fond memories of beloved dogs. In his later years, Mr. Williamson was comforted by many fine individuals and would like to especially recognize Reyes Reyna and Javier Medel.
His wife, Helen Bradford Morris Williamson, predeceased Mr. Williamson on January 25, 2002. His is survived by a son, Jeffrey P. Williamson and daughter-in-law, Susan P. Williamson (Cambridge, MD); two daughters Leonora Belle Stumberg Berg and son-in-law, Donald Berg (Dallas); daughter, Helen Louise Stumberg Womack (San Antonio), seven grandchildren (Mary Elizabeth Williamson-Pendleton and husband Matthew Pendleton, Helen Louise Womack Mayfield and husband, Jack Mayfield, Jesse Yell Womack, III and wife Lisa, William Henry Crain Womack, Virginia Nell Womack Duncan and husband Dr. Robert Duncan, Donald Edward Berg, and Bradford Belle Berg Moncrief), and six great-grandchildren .
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to "New Shelter Building Fund", Salvation Army, 200 Washington Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.
Memorial services will be held in December 2009 in San Antonio at Porter Loring, 1101 McCullough Avenue and Maryland at a location in Cambridge to be determined during Christmas week. More information will follow.
