Frances B. Travers, 82 formerly of Woolford, passed away in Seattle, Washington on Wednesday May 11, 2011. She was born in Waco, Texas on January 29, 1929, and was raised by her aunt & uncle Roy and Viola Driver.
She graduated from high school at Buck's Academy, and upon graduation attended Jenkins and Barnes School of Medical and X-Ray Technology also in Waco. After graduation she went to work at the Fort Hood Hospital laboratory for two years. On October 17, 1949 she was married to Medford J. Travers. Her husband entered a 25 year career as a fighter pilot in the US Air Force. His career took Frances to destinations all over the world from 6 years in Japan, 3 years in Germany, 1 year in Turkey, and 1 year in Iran where Col. Travers worked for TRW. Tours included New Mexico, Nevada, Virginia, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and Washington D.C. Col. Travers retired in 1976 and they moved to Woolford, Maryland, where Medford was born and raised. Frances was employed by the US Post Office in Cambridge as a rural carrier until she retired in 1993, at the age of 64. She had also sold Avon Products and also illustrated the monthly newsletter for the Eastern Shore State Hospital Auxiliary. Upon her husband's passing on February 7, 2008 she moved to Seattle, Washington.
Mrs. Travers is survived by four children, Donna Oakden, Roy Travers, Brett Travers and Carla Pfeifer. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren Blake and Landon Messer, Alex and Morgan Travers, Stephen, Elise, Garrett, Erica, Ean, and Jaclyn Pfeifer, a sister in law and brother in law Nancy Collins and Fred Collins of Woolford, and a brother in law, and sister in law F.L. "Petey" Travers and Pat Travers of Woolford, one niece Nancy Lee Shockley and two nephews Clint Collins and Rodney Travers. She was preceded in death by a son Glen Miles Travers.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 24 at 1:00 PM at the Grace Baptist Church, 510 North Main Street in Hurlock, with the Rev. David R. Talley officiating. Interment will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Box 106, Woolford, MD 21677 or to the Dorchester Co. Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
