Francis Todd O’Connor, 60, of Secretary passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. He was born in Baltimore on January 28, 1964 and was the son of Carolyn Allen O’Connor and the late Francis H. O’Connor.
He loved coaching youth football and mentoring young athletes and played in high school, college and semi-pro in Arbutus, MD and in Stuttgart, Germany.
He worked for the Department of Defense National Security Agency for 35 years before retiring in 2020. He and his family lived in Germany for 12 years and in Georgia for 10 years. He served as Chief of Security in Afghanistan for 6 months, which was the highlight of his career.
After retiring he volunteered at the East New Market Volunteer Fire Department (ENMVFD) and became certified as a Fire Police Deputy in Dorchester County. He was the Chaplain at both East New Market Volunteer Fire Department and the Secretary Volunteer Fire Company.
He was the President of Commissioners for the Town of Secretary.
He and his wife loved watching college football and having their family come over on Saturdays to cookout and watch the games.
He survived by his wife of 39 years Beth Ann (Mouer) O’Connor, daughter Elizabeth Ann Wielgosz and husband Patrick, a son Zachary David O’Connor, his mother Carolyn O’Connor, a sister Marsha O’Connor, niece Melissa Hoffman (Scott), niece Maggie Rowell (Jake), two great nieces Aubrey and Hayden and two great nephews Hunter and JT. He is preceded in death by his father Francis Hamilton O’Connor.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 1 to 4 at the East New Market Volunteer Fire Department. A second celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 2pm in Gibson, GA .
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the East New Market Volunteer Fire Company, P. O. Box 280, East New Market, MD 21631 or to Secretary Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 56, Secretary, MD 21664 or to a charity of choice.
Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
