Franklin D. Wallace

October 18, 1920 — April 17, 2011

Franklin D. Wallace, 90 of Cornersville, passed away at his home on Sunday April 17, 2011. He was born in Baltimore on October 18, 1920 and was a son of the late Franklin Tyler and Viola Irene Daws Wallace.

He attended school at Madison. He had served in the US Army from February 8, 1943 until November 20, 1945. He was a SSGT with the 453rd Ordinance Evacuation Co. and was involved with the Normandy Campaign, Ardennes Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, American Theater Service Ribbon as well as the WW II Victory Ribbon. On October 14, 1942 he was married to the former Mary Frances Moore. She passed away on June 10, 2000. Mr. Wallace worked at Cambridge Wire Cloth for over 40 years as a welder and supervisor, and also worked as a farmer and in the timber business. He had also worked at Brooks Barrel Co. in Cambridge for a number of years. He was a member of Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion and Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 VFW. For his 90th birthday Mr. Wallace had taken a cruise with all of his children. Mr. Wallace enjoyed traveling, gardening and also woodworking. He also enjoyed working in his shop. He had been in failing health for the past two months when he passed away on Sunday morning.

Survivors include eight children Mary Lee Pase and her husband Bob Pase of Delmar, DE, Toni Dean of Reliance, MD, Franklin R. Wallace and his wife Kathleen Wallace of Cornersville, Jenny Dibble and her husband Gary Dibble of Cambridge, Robin Wheeler and her husband Oden Wheeler of Church Creek, Nancy Jones and her husband Bill Jones of Church Creek, Penny Derr and her husband Jim Derr of Newville, PA, and Tim Wallace and his wife Noni Wallace of Viola, DE, 22 grandchildren Charles Smith, Teresa Addlesberger, Dawn Brauchle, D.J. Lednum, Janie Wahl, Brian Wallace, Sarah Wallace, Franklin O. Wallace IV, Tammy Wingate, Amanda Saunders, Matthew Wheeler, CW2 Joshua Wheeler, Jessica Dukes, Hilary Jones, William Jones, Jr., Ally Jones, Brandon Derr, Jamie Heckard, Majessah Wallace, John Wallace, Jocelyn Wallace and Jeffrey Roberts, 24 great grandchildren Jonathon and Nicholas Smith, Sadie Addlesberger, Ashley Eason, Tiffany Brauchle, Emily Sterling, Chelsea Compton, Bryan Mills, Donnie Lednum, III, Briana Wallace, Katelin Dibble, Cody Kemp, Amarah Willey, Hunter Saunders, Lukas Wheeler, Jasmine and Gabriella Wheeler, Sutton, Madison and Carter Dukes, Rebekah and Wyatt Derr, Greyson and Peyton Heckard and five great great grandchildren Hunter and Lilly Eason, Carson Compton, Travis and Tyler Burton and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a brother Anthony Wallace and a cousin Ben Wallace.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor Nathan Walker officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 on Wednesday. Mr. Wallace's sons in law Bill Jones, Oden Wheeler and Bob Pase and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
