Franklin R. Wheedleton, 80, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at UMSMC at Dorchester surrounded by his family. He was born in Cambridge on January 22, 1934 to the late Oliver Wheedleton and Margaret A. Montgomery.
Mr. Wheedleton was an avid collector and recycler. He was also a huge animal lover. He married the former Nellie J. Holley on June 21, 1963. Franklin worked for Phillips Canning Company, Rob Roy and the Dorchester County Office Building from which he retired on June 1, 1999 after 25 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Nellie Wheedleton, two daughters Betty Wells and husband Bruce of Austin, TX and Cheryl Lyons of New Castle, DE, a sister Patricia R. Hurley and husband Ronald of Cambridge, a grandson Christopher Lyons and two great grandchildren CJ Lyons, Jr. and Kira Lyons. Besides his mother he is preceded in death by a sister Mary Ellen Wheedleton, a son in law William C. Lyons and three beloved dogs Taffy, Duke and Peanut. He will surely be missed.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613.
