Frederick William Hughes, Sr.

Frederick W. Hughes, Sr., 81, of East New Market passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born on January 17, 1935 in Dorchester County and was a son of the late Ruth Hughes Hill.
Mr. Hughes graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1953. He served in the Army National Guard. On September 28, 1956, he married the former Helen Simmons. He worked at the Cambridge Wire Cloth with 47 years of service. Mr. Hughes enjoyed playing music with his electronic piano and his accordion. He also coached Little League, youth bowling, men’s softball and was on the men's bowling league.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Helen F. Hughes of East New Market, two sons Frederick W. Hughes, Jr. of East New Market, and David W. Hughes of East New Market, a sister Darlene Chapman and husband John of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. Besides his mother, Mr. Hughes is preceded in death by a sister Lurray Jones and two brothers Ronald Hughes and Donald Hughes.
Pallbearers will be Hubert Meekins, Matthew Meekins, Wendell Meekins, Richard Meekins, Wendell Meekins, Jr. and Mason Little.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Jack Diehl officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
