Frederick Levi Ruark, 80, of Cambridge, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, November 25, 2022.
Levi was born on September 22, 1942 to the late Frederick Ruark and Burnice Reynolds Ruark in Cambridge, MD. During his youth he helped to deliver milk and did yard work to help support his family. After Levi graduated from Cambridge High School in 1960, he began working at the National Bank of Cambridge, volunteered as a coach for Little League Baseball, and was active in the Bowling League.
Levi married the love of his life Kay Lorraine Fleischman in 1967 and had two children, Steven and Scott.
Levi went on to attend banking school at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. After graduating, he began a 50 year career at the National Bank of Cambridge where he started as a bookkeeper and teller and became the President and Chairman of the Board.
Levi was a pillar of the community, using his position to help many businesses get their start and serving on many boards in various capacities over the past five decades. He served as both Vice-Director and Director for the Dorchester General Hospital Foundation, President of Cambridge Salvation Army, and Director of Delmarva Data Center. From 1991 to 1997 Levi served on the Board of Directors for the Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond, Virginia alongside Alan Greenspan.
Prior to retirement, Levi was also involved with Ducks Unlimited, a member of Grace United Methodist Church, B.P.O.E. Lodge 1272, Exchange Club, Maryland Farm Bureau, Cambridge Yacht Club, and Wingate Point Hunting Club. Levi retired in December 2010 and spent his time fishing, hunting, golfing, traveling, playing cards, and watching Ravens football with his family.
Levi is survived by his wife Kay Fleischman Ruark of Cambridge, his son Steven Ruark and wife, Susan Ruark of Woolford, his son Scott Ruark and wife Cathie Farris of Towson, his grandchildren Will Ruark of Clemson, SC and Jake Ruark of Towson, his sister Darlene Ruark and husband Dennis Hrsecky of Emmaws, PA , his sister Brenda Vickers and husband the late Jimmy Vickers of East New Market, his niece Kim Vickers of Rhodesdale, Danny Pritchett, wife Betty Pritchett, and their children Eric and Aaron Pritchett of Staunton, VA, Sharlene Pritchett Wade of Charlottesville, VA, and numerous extended family members.
A visitation will be held at Thomas Funeral Home P.A. on Monday, November 28, 2022 between 6pm-8pm. The family will have a private graveside service.
