Garnel C. Willis, Jr., 87, formerly of Salisbury passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Baltimore on March, 15, 1927 to the late Garnel C. and Marion A. Cerad Willis.
Mr. Willis lived and spent many years in Rock Hall where he attended the Seventh Day Adventist School. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served through 1946. In 1950, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served until 1953. Garnel worked as a tech for Baltimore Gas and Electric retiring on April 1, 1989 after 35 years. Mr. Willis had a lifelong passion for photography, and was an avid reader. Garnel enjoyed traveling and fresh water fishing with Cape Hatteras as a favorite destination.
He is survived by two nephews Steve Spellman and wife Virginia of East New Market and Timothy O'Brien, four nieces Lynn O'Brien and husband Roger Mitchell of Carrboro, North Carolina, Patty Washall and husband Mark of Wilmington, Delaware, Susan Oppenheimer and husband Stephen of Baltimore and Mary Handley and husband Bill of Cambridge and several great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by three siblings Robert L. Willis, H. June Slacum, Eleanor O'Brien and a nephew Robert J. Spellman.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
