Gayle M. Killeen

Gayle M. Killeen (nee Meacham), 83, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at William Hill Gardens in Easton, Maryland. She was born on January 14, 1930 in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Audrey and Ralph Meacham. Mrs. Killeen attended schools in Pennsylvania, graduating from Lower Marion High School in Ardmore, PA and the University of Pennsylvania. She was a member of the Women's Lacrosse Association and was selected to be a part of the Women's U.S. Touring Team, on two occasions, which took place in Great Britain and Ireland. Upon graduation, she taught French at Radnor and Haverford High Schools in Pennsylvania.

On August 18, 1979, she married James F. Killeen, who passed away February 12, 2002. They resided in West Chester, PA and in 1996 made their home in Cambridge, MD.

Mrs. Killeen was a member of the Skycastle French Basset Hound Club, the Exton Chorale and Green Leigh Chorus and the West Chester County Garden Club in Pennsylvania. She was an avid sailor with her husband, Jim, and they were members of several sailing clubs in Pennsylvania, and Cambridge Sail and Power Squadron. She was a former member of the Cambridge Yacht Club.

Mrs. Killeen attended St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge and Women of Faith Activities with Spedden United Methodist Church.

Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers Donald and Ralph. She is survived by stepdaughter Kathleen A. Killeen and her husband Alan Rhoads, stepson Thomas J. Killeen and his wife Julie, step-grandson Jimmy, sister-in-law Helen Meachem and many nieces, nephew and friends. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Thomas Funeral Home P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Pam Bockart officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will also be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, PA on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Baywater Animal Rescue (Gayle's favorite), 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to a charity of your choice.
