George C. "Poogie" Burton

January 29, 1929 — July 15, 2014

George C. "Poogie" Burton, 85, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Heartfields Assisted Living in Easton. He was born in Cambridge on January 29, 1929 and was a son of the late Robert L. Burton, Sr. and Lula Mumford Burton.

He graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1946. On August 11, 1960, he married the former Peggy Ruark, who passed away on October 28, 2008. Poogie was an electrician, and worked with I.B.E.W. Local 24 in Baltimore. He enjoyed shooting skeet, fishing, hunting and going to breakfast every morning at Denny's. He was member of Cambridge Skeet Club.

He is survived by a son Mark Burton and wife Tracie of Hurlock, two grandsons Connor and Gavin Burton and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Burton is preceded in death by two sisters, his twin sister Mary Lou Vickers and Jean Thomas and three brothers J. Martin Burton, Donald M. Burton and Robert L. Burton, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Connor Burton, Gavin Burton, Planner Windsor, Robert Jones, Wayne Todd and Danny Wanex.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
