George B. Sackett, Sr

George B. Sackett, Sr., 87 of Brookview, set sail on his final voyage on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge surrounded by his family. He was born in Halstead, PA on January 2, 1924, and was a son of the late Floyd W. and Mary Snow Sackett.

He attended schools in Johnson City, NY, and also attended college at Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City. During WW II Mr. Sackett served in the US Army's 45th Infantry Division and served in Africa, Sicily Italy and Anzio. On June 26, 1946 he was married to the former Margaret Hulbert.

George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret H. Sackett, his five children George B. Sackett, Jr. and his wife Kim, Colette (Sutherland) Lancaster and her husband Roxy, Rudi L. Sackett and his wife Ramona, LorAC. L. Sackett and Eric L. Sackett and his wife Debra, grandchildren Cindy Rosada, John Atkinson, Jason Lancaster, Kimberly (Sackett) Gleaton, Jacob Sackett-Sanders and Phillip Workman. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 AM at the Brookview United Methodist Church with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
