George "George El" Elden Murphy

George E. “George El” Murphy, 80, of Crocheron passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Crocheron on May 29, 1935 to the late George and Pearl Todd Murphy.

George El started working as a waterman at a very young age. He married the former Mary V. “Ginny” Horner on November 27, 1963. He owned his own boats the “We Two” and after that the “We Two II”. He did hand tonging, scraping, trot lining and he and his wife used to shed soft crabs for forty plus years. George El enjoyed hunting and loved to talk to people.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years Ginny Murphy of Crocheron, two siblings Becky Bradshaw of Cambridge and Amanda Lee Holotik of Crocheron and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by six siblings Bernice Meredith, Betty Jean Murphy, Otis Murphy, O’Neil Murphy, Elouise Abbott and Conrad Murphy.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Holotik, Earl Todd, Donnie Sadler, Rick Marshall, Neil Windsor, Randy Mertz and Bill Edwards.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 25, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. David L. Kreek officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, c/o Mary Todd, Crocheron, MD, 21627.
