Georgia Belle Wheatley, 88, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at her home. She was born in Dorchester County on March 10, 1929 and was a daughter of the late George and Nettie Mae Lowe Slacum.
She attended schools in Cambridge. On April 5, 1947, she married Ollie H. Wheatley, who passed away on March 8, 2015. Mrs. Wheatley had worked at a sewing factory on Meadow Ave. and later was a house wife. She enjoyed baking, playing the piano and singing. Mrs. Wheatley was a member of Cambridge Wesleyan Church since early childhood.
She is survived by a son Kenneth Wheatley and wife Michelle of Preston, a daughter Debbie Collison and husband Ricky of Cambridge, grandchildren Cherie Messick and husband Terry, Michael Wheatley, Crystal Yockey and husband Kevin, step grandson Matthew Hastings, great grandchildren Kristopher Messick, Rebekah Yockey and Alexis Yockey, a brother James Slacum and wife Ann of Cambridge, several nieces and nephews and special caregivers Joseph and Jenny Brown.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Collison, Michael Wheatley, Terry Messick, Kristopher Messick, Kevin Yockey, Mike Rossy and Joseph Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be the granddaughters.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 12 pm at the Cambridge Wesleyan Church in Cambridge with Pastor Jack Diehl officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 to 12. Memorial contributions can be made to Cambridge Wesleyan Church, c/o Mrs. Paulette Meekins, 1108 Race St., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
