Gerald R. "Giggs" Dickinson

July 21, 1943 — March 13, 2014

Gerald “Giggs” Reed Dickinson, Sr., 70, of Linkwood passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at his home. He was born in Mineral, VA on July 21, 1943 at Dickinson’s Store and was the son of the late Robert Pollard Dickinson, Sr. and Eula Harlow Dickinson.

Giggs graduated from Cambridge High School in 1961, after attending Valley Forge Military Academy. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant from the National Guard in 1965 and the United States Army in 1968. He married the former Ginger Lewis on July 26, 1975. He dedicated his life to running the family business, Dorchester Lumber Company, a sawmill and piling operation in Linkwood. Mr. Dickinson was a life time member of Countryside Christian Church and a life time member of Linkwood-Salem Volunteer Fire Company. In his spare time he enjoyed working on antique cars and tractors, watching racing and spending time with his family and friends.

Giggs is survived by his wife Ginger R. Dickinson of Linkwood, a son Brad Thomas Dickinson and fiancée Heather Moore and her daughter Kristen Smith of Linkwood, a daughter Elizabeth Dickinson Hill and husband Mark of Linkwood, three grandchildren Sawyer Reed Hill, Bailie Rae Dickinson, and Harlan “Harry” Miller Hil, two brothers Michael M. Dickinson and Bennett E. Dickinson and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Robert “Bobby” Dickinson and a son Gerald “Jerry” Reed Dickinson, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Randy Lewis, Mark Lewis, John Lewis, Matthew Lewis, Tyler Lewis and Blake Lewis.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Countryside Christian Church. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will take place on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Dickinson family plot at Mt. Pleasant Churchyard in Mineral, VA.
