Gertrude E. Showalter

Gertrude E. Showalter, 96 of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Dorchester General Hospital. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 26, 1916 and was a daughter of the late William and Gertrude Smith Diehl.
She graduated high school in Brooklyn, NY. Mrs. Showalter worked as a secretary in New York until she got married on July 13, 1947 to Victor Showalter, who passed away on November 17, 2001. Later, she worked as a Figure Skater Instructor in Pittsburgh, PA where she lived until moving to Cambridge in 2000. Mrs. Showalter enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, biking and in her later years she loved to play scrabble.
She is survived by two daughters Judith Ann Showalter and Jane Elizabeth Showalter both of Cambridge and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Showalter is preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
