Gilbert F. Dodson

Gilbert F. Dodson, 94, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Cambridge on December 14, 1923 and was a son of the late John Franklin Dodson and Blanche Bell Dodson.

Mr. Dodson graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1940. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a decorated veteran of WWII. On June 10, 1948, he married the former Elizabeth Simmons, who passed away on September 10, 2014. Mr. Dodson worked at Deshields and Leonards, and later at Sears Roebuck as a service repairman and later as the Service Manager. Following his retirement from Sears, he went on to become the Maintenance Foreman at Easton Memorial Hospital. Not one to remain idle, he continued working with Terry Tubman, a lifelong friend, at Dorchester Antiques. He enjoyed playing golf, and bowling and was a member of the Chesapeake Bowling Association, and the American Legion Post #91.

He is survived by his four children Wallace Dodson and wife Sandy of Cambridge, George Dodson and wife Patricia of Newport News, VA, Joyce Malik of Cambridge and Brenda Dill and husband Ralph of Kilmarnock, VA, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one brother Freddie Dodson of Horntown, VA, two sisters Gloria Whitby of Easton and Dawn Holland of Newcomb and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Dodson was preceded in death by a great granddaughter Karoline Dodson, two sisters and two brothers.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:30 am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Dale Krotee officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
