Gladys Hall Combs Elzey, 83, of New Port Richey, FL formerly of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at her son's home. She was born on April 19, 1927 in Fishing Creek and was a daughter of the late Elmer M. and Ellen Phillips Hall.
Mrs. Elzey graduated from Hoopers Island High School class of 1944 where Old Salty's Restaurant is now. She entered and graduated from Cambridge Maryland Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1947. During her working career, she worked as Head Nurse Supervisor 1

floor and LPN instructor at Cambridge Maryland Hospital from 1947 to 1970. She then worked at the Dorchester County Health Department until she retired in 1987. In retirement, she enjoyed shopping, traveling and being with her family. She married the late J. Mack Combs in June of 1948 and divorced in 1956 and married the late Jefferson Lee Elzey in 1958.
She is survived by daughters Gail E. Combs of Cambridge and Deborah Combs Harris and husband Daniel of Ocean City, a son Jefferson W. Elzey of New Port Richey, FL, a grandson James Andrysiak and wife Cathy, a granddaughter Amber Harris, a great grandson Jonathan Jones, Jr., nieces Josephine Taylor, Connie Pyke and Karen Adams, nephews Donald Ruark, Carroll Ruark and William Hall. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Elzey is preceded in death by her sisters Camilla "Minnie" Ruark and Leona "Lee Lee" Newcomb and brothers Irving Hall and Harold Hall.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
