Gladys W. Mills

Gladys W. Mills, 85 of Cambridge, passed away at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. She was born at Vienna on May 16, 1926, and was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Lawson Willey.

She attended schools in Cambridge. After graduation from high school she went to work for the Rob Roy Sewing Factory, where she met her future husband Charles O. Mills. She and Mr. Mills were married on September 27, 1946. Mr. Mills passed away on August 2, 2009 Together they built their home on Leonard Lane in Cambridge. They also built a summer cottage at Deep Point where they enjoyed fishing and crabbing. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and cooking. Mrs. Mills had been in declining health for several years and had been a resident at the Mallard Bay Care Center for the past 18 months where she passed away on Wednesday evening.

Survivors include a sister Flossie Brohawn of Cambridge, a brother in law Ralph Mills of Mechanicsville, MD, six nieces Susan Dickinson, Mary Ann Hurley and Terri Robbins of Cambridge, Tami Parisi of Glen Arm, MD, Karen Mills Webster of Westminster and Lois Mills Baker of Salisbury, four nephews Bobby James of Cambridge, Charles Peeling of Baltimore, Martin M. Mills of Hampton, Va. and Keith Mills of Hughesville. She and Mr. Mills shared a special friendship with Michael Diorio and his family from Pennsylvania. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters Hazel James, Cora Jones, Winifred Peeling and four brothers Watson Willey, Jesse Willey, Linwood "Pete" Willey and Jack S. Willey and a nephew Linwood E. Willey, Jr. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday May 31 at 11:30 AM at Dorchester Memorial Park with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A.
