Gladys Anna (happy bottom) Murphy (nee Smith), 92, of Halethorpe, MD, passed away on July 24, 2022, in Ellicott City, MD.
Gladys is survived by her children: Cheri Fleming of Ellicott City, MD, Pamela Presti of Baltimore, MD and Keith Murphy of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren: Doni and Marie, Jody and Gary, and Heather and Anthony; great-grandchildren: Dustin and Jesse, Kelly, Garrett and Sarah, AJ, Haleigh, Nathan, and Liam; her last remaining sibling, Nancy Barrack of Cambridge, MD; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard O. Murphy; her parents Floyd and Ruth Smith; great-grandchild Alexandria Murphy; brothers: Russell, Luke, Arthur, and Robert Smith; and sister Margaret Poe.
Gladys was born in Madison, Maryland to Floyd and Ruth Smith (nee Edwards), on December 23, 1929. She attended Cambridge High School and graduated from there in 1946. From there she began working in the canning factories, then Woolworths in Cambridge, MD. Gladys loved to cook; her specialties were baking and seafood. She loved her family, and enjoyed hosting family reunions once a year in Madison, MD.
Funeral services for Gladys will begin Monday, August 1, 2022, at Loudon Park Funeral Home, 3620 Wilkens Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21229. Visitation will be from 3pm-5pm, with a funeral service beginning at 5pm. On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, funeral services will be held at Thomas Funeral Home, 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613. Visitation will be 1pm-3pm, with a funeral service beginning at 3pm. Interment will follow immediately after at Old Trinity Churchyard, 1716 Taylors Island Road, Church Creek, MD 21622.

With all my “heart” and “Gods blessings” ……there will be a new day dawning and with this daily occurrence, there will appear on the horizon, the most beautiful sunrise……glowing with the shimmering hues of life….and the spirit will be renewed.
