Gloria Wright Gardner (nee Callis) died peacefully at her daughter's home on the morning of June 29 at age 90. Gloria grew up in Havertown, PA, daughter of J. Earl Callis and Margaret Smith Callis moving to Moorestown NJ when she married Howard L. Wright.
Resident of Dorchester County since 2005, Gloria was active in the Dorchester Garden Club, a member of the Cambridge Yacht Club and on the church committee at St. John's Chapel in Cornersville. She was active in local bridge groups and book club until very recently. Gloria was a resident of Moorestown, New Jersey for 55 years where she volunteered in numerous organizations, including the Moorestown Garden Club, Home and School Association and served as President of the Cooper Hospital Woman's Auxiliary. From 1970 to 1982 she was employed by the Moorestown Township School System and served as Adult School Director for many years. Gloria was an elegant entertainer and loved to cook for her many friends at dinner parties.
Gloria was preceded in death by her first husband of 33 years, Howard L. Wright and her second husband of 3 years, Robert H. Gardner, all of Moorestown, NJ. Gloria is survived by her only child, Margaret (Midge) Wright Ingersoll and son-in-law Jon E. Ingersoll of Cambridge, MD; two grandsons, Daniel of Bryn Mawr, PA (wife Stephanie) and Douglas of Moorestown, NJ (wife Jennifer); and two great-grandsons Henry and George.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. John's Chapel, Cornersville, MD on Wednesday, July 2 at 11 a.m. Any memorial contributions can be made either to St. John's Chapel, 1213 Hudson Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
