She attended schools in Cambridge. On September 23, 1950 she was married to Everett R. Simmons, Jr. Mr. Simmons passed away on January 9, 2008. Some years ago she had worked at Western Publishing and she and her husband had operated a family store at Church Creek for a number of years. Mrs. Simmons was an avid reader and after she was having trouble with her vision she enjoyed listening to books on tape. She had been in failing health for several days and had been admitted to Dorchester General Hospital last Monday where she passed away on Sunday evening.
Survivors include a son L. Reese Simmons and his wife Carol Simmons of Willards, five grandchildren Tracey Smith and her husband Steve Smith, Scott Simmons and his wife Shannon Simmons, Heather Simmons, Joseph Mennit and Jennifer Simmons, nine great grandchildren, one sister Betty Marshall of Cambridge, one brother Levin M. Marshall, Jr. of Cambridge, a sister in law Doris Sandoval and her husband Pepe Sandoval of Ocean View, DE several nieces and nephews, and a cousin Patsy Meredith who she was quite close with. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a sister Peggy Passwaters.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 PM at Dorchester Memorial Park with the Rev. Pardee Bramble officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dorchester Co. Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613, or to the Church Creek Vol. Fire Co., P.O. Box 16, Church Creek, MD 21622.
