Gordon Meade Fitzhugh, 86, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at his home. He was born in Church Creek on October 14, 1928 to the late John and Lena Elzey Fitzhugh.

He attended schools in Church Creek and Cambridge. Meade was in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. Mr. Fitzhugh married the former Helen M. Towers in 1959, who passed away on January 13, 2013. Meade worked as a building superintendant for the Dorchester County School Board. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, deer hunting, antique cars and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Fitzhugh is survived by a son Joseph M. Fitzhugh and wife Jacqueline of Cambridge, two daughters Donna M. Baker of LaPlata and Deborah A. Haliw and husband Michael of Pasadena, a step son William Beckwith, Jr. of American Corner, six grandchildren Denise Fitzhugh, Brenton Haliw, Jeremy Haliw, Ariel M. Baker, Joseph R. Fitzhugh and Joshua M. Fitzhugh, four great grandchildren A. J. Jones, Stephanie Jones, Anna Jones and Patrick Jones, a sister Ruth Ann "Peggy" Squires of Linkwood and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers John A. Fitzhugh, William E. Fitzhugh and Levin M. Fitzhugh and two sisters Mary "Sis" Insley and Rebecca Willey.

Pallbearers will be Alvin Warfield, Joseph Fitzhugh, Joseph Gray, Joshua Fitzhugh, Chuck Cusick and Jeff Cusick.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
