Grace Louise Adkins, 98, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born in Cambridge on November 30, 1914 to the late Clarence and Grace Lee Phillips Lewis.
She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1933. Mrs. Adkins married the late John Eldridge Adkins on April 17, 1938, who passed away on January 17, 1989. She worked as a presser at Rob Roy for five years, Dorchester County Home Extension Services for five years, and Airpax for eight years. Mrs. Adkins enjoyed gardening, traveling, and canning vegetable from her garden, crocheting and quilting in her spare time, and spending time with her family. She volunteered for the Salvation Army, and was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ.
Mrs. Adkins is survived by two sons John C. Adkins, Sr. and wife Janie of Cambridge, and Barry W. Adkins and wife Frances of Chestertown, four grandchildren John Adkins, Jr. of Easton, Tammy Lynn Robinson of Federalsburg, Thomas Adkins of Haverhill, MA, and Frances Louise Adkins of Chestertown, three great grandchildren, and two sisters Mary Cameron of Cambridge, and DeRue Hoffman of Cambridge. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Eldridge Adkins, her parents, one sister Anna Lowe, and one brother Kehoe Lewis.
Pallbearers will be John Adkins, Jr., Tom Adkins, Byron Cameron, and Bill Robinson.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Robert F. R. Peters, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday, January 28, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of your choice.
