Guy Gene Knieriem passed away on June 21, 2018 at University of Maryland Hospital at the age of 87. He was born in Humboldt, Iowa on October 13, 1930 to the late Guy Knieriem and Ione Sample Knieriem.
In 1952, he entered the United States Army and served in Germany where he met and married the former Ann Zitzman, who passed away on September 19, 2000. In 1962 he went to work for the Chun King Corp, now Nabisco, at Duluth, Minnesota. In 1964, he transferred to Cambridge. He retired in 1989 and was a purchasing, traffic, and production planning manager. At that time, he went to work for security at the Icelantic Plant until they left town. Mr. Knieriem was a life member of the American Legion Post 91 and the VFW Post 7460.
He is survived by his daughter Vicki Hayden and her wife Colleen Auletto of Cambridge, a grandson Jay Hayden of St. Augustine, FL, a sister Verna Olson of Iowa City, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews throughout the world.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in his wife Ann’s name. Arrangements are in care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, MD
