Hannah S. Bennett, 84 of Cambridge, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge on Tuesday March 9, 2010. She was born at Mt. Holly on February 14, 1926, and was a daughter of the late William Bain and Florence Spedden Beckwith.
She was raised in the Cambridge area and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1943. She was first married to G. Omro Willey on March 10, 1945. Mr. Willey passed away on March 18, 1974. She was then married to Millard S. Bowman. Mr. Bowman passed away on March 31, 1984. She was later married to Robert Bennett on February 14, 1986. Mr. Bennett passed away on February 1, 1999. Mrs. Bennett spent her entire career in the restaurant business. She began working at Miss Ruby Saulsbury's restaurant as a young teenager. She later owned and operated Willey's Restaurant on Race Street in Cambridge, and also served as the kitchen manager at the Shoals Restaurant from 1967 until it closed several years ago. Mrs. Bennett was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church at Town Point and had also been an active member of the Women of the Moose of Cambridge Lodge No. 1211. She had made her home with her son on Oyster Shell Point Road since July of 2007, and had been a patient at the Chesapeake Woods Center for the past two weeks where she passed away on Tuesday morning.
Survivors include two sons G. Omro Willey, Jr. and his wife Brenda Willey of East New Market and T. Gary Willey and his wife Shelly Willey of Cambridge, three granddaughters Lisa LeCompte, Tammy Robinson and Noel Darling and four grandsons Marc Willey, Omro Willey, Daryl Willey and Josh Willey. She is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, one sister Dorothy B. Nave of Trappe two nieces Patty Tindall and Dianna Short and two nephews Jay Nave and Billy Beckwith. In addition to her husbands she was preceded in death by two brothers Charles W. Beckwith and William H. Beckwith, Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Pam Bockart officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Pallbearers will be Josh Willey, Daryl Willey, Omro Willey, Randy Willey, Billy Beckwith and Billy Short.
